Reusable Microgreen Mesh Grow Medium – Fine Size – 5 pack – USED

16,50

USED (NOT NEW) 5-pack of our Reusable Microgreen Mesh Grow Medium in Fine Size. The meshes are cut to size for the Garland 1020 Microgreens Growing Trays.

We use the fine size for our brassica seeds (broccoli, kohlrabi, red cabbage, and mizuna) and rocket.

Our reusable meshes are:

  • – safe: certified food-safe according to EU and FDA regulations.
  • – sustainable: no more using single-use mediums like coco coir, hemp or soil that need to be produced, packaged, transported, and eventually recycled. Our durable meshes can be used over and over again.
  • – practical: facilitates sowing, growing, harvesting microgreens and cleaning trays. The meshes are also easy to clean and reduce the chances of mould forming.
  • – cost-efficient: eliminates recurring costs of single-use medium.
  • suitable for organic farming of microgreens: considered an inert growing medium, which makes it suitable for organically growing microgreens according to EU regulation (EU) 2018/848.

what do you mean by “used”?

We used these meshes to grow our microgreens and want to give them a second life. They are in good condition but expect some stains and usage marks.

We strongly recommend you clean and sanitize them before using them for the first time.

how easy is sowing and harvesting with these meshes?

With these meshes, sowing and harvesting become a breeze.

To sow
  • Place the mesh in the growing tray.
  • – Mist the mesh with water. This makes the mesh “stick” to the tray, so it becomes completely flat. It also allows the seeds to stick to the mesh.
  • – Evenly distribute your seeds on the mesh, as you would with any medium.
  • – Lastly, mist the seeds. You will notice that the cells of the meshes hold the water.
To harvest
  • – Take the mesh with the microgreens out of the tray. Your microgreens have never been so easily accessible to harvest.
  • – Your harvest is super clean. No soil or coco coir can get mixed with your harvest.
  • – The only waste you will have after a harvest is the roots, which are perfectly compostable.

how can I clean the mesh?

There are many techniques to clean the meshes. We remove all matter from the meshes right after harvesting.

This is the method that works best for us:

  • – Once we harvest our microgreens, we use a plastic scraper (like to remove ice from a car windshield) to wipe off the roots from both sides of the mesh.
  • – We then rinse the mesh with water while rubbing away the matter that’s still attached to the mesh.
  • – Lastly, we disinfect the meshes with H2O2 and hang them to dry.

how do I know what mesh size to buy?

We currently use and sell two sizes:

  • – We use the fine size for our brassica seeds (broccoli, kohlrabi, red cabbage, and mizuna) and rocket.
  • – We use the coarse size for larger seeds like radish, peas, and sunflower.

how durable are these meshes?

This material is very durable and should last you a long time. Here are a few tips to keep them looking like new:

  • – Overexposure to natural sunlight can affect the meshes, but full-spectrum grow lights are not a problem at all.
  • – Avoid using sharp objects on the meshes. We use a plastic scraper to clean them and wouldn’t recommend using a metal scraper.
